A Who’s Who of Child Sex Abuse Witch Hunters

Day Care Sex Abuse Hysteria

During the 1980s and 1990s, the nation was gripped by panic in which prosecutors, law enforcement, and social services workers embarked on a binge of charging and prosecuting innocent people with child sex abuse crimes.  This crusade is now almost universally regarded as a “witch hunt” because it took on the very characteristics of the witch hunts in Salem Massachusetts during the late 17th century.

In 1692, children made up incredible stories at the behest of their puritanical inquisitors, accusing adults of horrendous acts.  When some children refused, they were labeled as being co-conspirators.  It was a vicious cycle that could have no other outcome than a flood of false accusations that utterly destroyed entire families.

What follows is a who’s who of those involved with instigating and perpetuating the child sex abuse hysteria of the 80s and 90s.  While some may have been motivated by good intentions, most were driven by the promise of personal gain and fame.  It should be noted that, despite the swath of misery and ruined lives they left in their wake, few suffered any repercussions, and many indeed benefited personally and politically because of the part they played in feeding the blood lust for retribution of a paranoid American public that is only too willing to see evil everywhere, especially when the magic word “children” is invoked.

I’ve only started compiling the names and the order is simply alphabetical, but I may eventually regroup the list into specific cases.
