Almost every day there is something in the news about some sex related “crime” that seems more sensational than serious: the streaker who runs across the field at half time, the junior high kid who sends her boyfriend a naked picture of herself from her phone, the banning of sex toy sales, arrests of prostitutes, the nineteen year old who has sex with his sixteen year old girl friend, etc.
On top of that there are plenty of talk show discussion of “inappropriate” sexual behavior, such as Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction, risque sex scenes in movies, the secret affairs of politicians, the latest celebrity sex video, etc.
The perpetual bombardment of sexual topics in the media, the constant ratcheting up of penalties for sex related crimes, and the public’s tolerance of legislation regulating every aspect of sexual activity is clear evidence of America’s obsession with and fear of all things sex related.
There is no mainstream national organization that crusades for the rights of people to be in control of their own sex lives. The organizations that actively oppose laws banning sex activities are advocacy groups whose membership consists almost entirely of those in the sex trades they support.
This blog will address those topics in an effort to shine a light on the destruction and injury wrought on the lives of real people as a result of Western civilization’s irrationality toward human sexuality. While not new to the topic, I don’t have a list of sources for related news items or links to organizations that are vocal about these subjects. It will take time to build up a data base from which to collect content for discussion here. I welcome suggestions, but I have a very limited amount of time to spend on this, so it’s probably going to be slow going at first.
I look forward to hearing from everyone interested in or opinionated about Sex Hysteria!
